Job Description
Guthrie Common School District is seeking a reliable and skilled Full-Time Maintenance Worker to join our team. This position is responsible for performing a variety of maintenance tasks to ensure the upkeep, functionality, and safety of district facilities, including both household and commercial maintenance needs. The ideal candidate will be a proactive problem-solver with a strong work ethic and a commitment to supporting our school community.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform routine maintenance tasks, including minor repairs to plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and carpentry systems in school buildings, school houses and grounds.
- Address household maintenance needs, such as painting, drywall repair, and fixture maintenance in administrative and classroom areas.
- Conduct commercial maintenance tasks, including upkeep of large-scale systems (e.g., replacing filters, minor roof patches, flooring) and compliance with safety regulations.
- Inspect facilities regularly to identify maintenance needs and prioritize repairs.
- Maintain grounds, including landscaping, mowing, and snow/ice removal (as applicable).
- Assist with setup and breakdown for school events, ensuring facilities are prepared and safe.
- Respond to emergency maintenance requests promptly and effectively.
- Maintain inventory of maintenance supplies and report needs to the supervisor.
- Collaborate with staff and contractors to coordinate larger repair or renovation projects.
Job Requirements
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent required; vocational training or certification in maintenance-related fields (e.g., HVAC, plumbing, or electrical) preferred.
- Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience in household and/or commercial maintenance, including demonstrated skills in general repairs and facility upkeep a plus.
- Skills and Abilities:
- Proficiency in basic plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and masonry.
- Knowledge of commercial building systems and maintenance practices.
- Ability to operate and maintain tools and equipment safely (e.g., power tools, lawnmowers, etc.).
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.
- Physical ability to lift, climb ladders, and perform manual labor.
- Licenses/Certifications: Valid Texas driver’s license required. Certifications in HVAC, electrical, or plumbing are a plus.
- Other Requirements:
- Ability to pass a criminal background check and drug screening.
- Willingness to work flexible hours, including occasional evenings or weekends for emergencies or events.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with school staff and administration.

- Work Schedule: Full-time, 12-month position.
