Provide tailored classroom push-in support for instruction in foundational skills of English and content to a diverse, multilevel group of students.
ADDITIONAL PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Background experience in one or more of the following categories: emergent literacy development, sheltered instruction, cognitive academic language learning approach, cooperative learning, writing process and reading.
Knowledge of second language acquisition skills.
Ability to work collaboratively with campus staff in a classroom/training model.
Awareness of Social Emotional Learning practices.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Acculturate recently transitioned students from a ESL classroom to a mainstream ESL educational setting.
- Collaboratively plan and co-teach with teachers of English Learners to ensure support services are aligned to the needs of identified ESL students.
- Develop student’s English proficiency skills while accelerating students’ learning in core content areas in a safe and supportive co-teach environment.
- Provide developmentally appropriate instruction that will facilitate the acquisition of English language, literacy, and cognitive academic language and skills.
- Monitor student progress.
- Attend ARD’s for ESL/LEP students and serve on LPAC committees throughout the year. 7. Serve as a student advocate for limited English proficient students.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Education/Certification:
*Bachelor's degree from an accredited university
*Valid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements for subject and level assigned
Special Knowledge/Skills:
*Knowledge of subjects assigned
*General knowledge of curriculum and instruction
*Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior
*Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
