Provide tailored classroom push-in support for instruction in foundational skills of English and content to a diverse, multilevel group of students.

ADDITIONAL PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Background experience in one or more of the following categories: emergent literacy development, sheltered instruction, cognitive academic language learning approach, cooperative learning, writing process and reading.

Knowledge of second language acquisition skills.

Ability to work collaboratively with campus staff in a classroom/training model.

Awareness of Social Emotional Learning practices.

 

 DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Acculturate recently transitioned students from a ESL classroom to a mainstream ESL educational setting.
  2. Collaboratively plan and co-teach with teachers of English Learners to ensure support services are aligned to the needs of identified ESL students.
  3. Develop student’s English proficiency skills while accelerating students’ learning in core content areas in a safe and supportive co-teach environment.
  4. Provide developmentally appropriate instruction that will facilitate the acquisition of English language, literacy, and cognitive academic language and skills.
  5. Monitor student progress.
  6. Attend ARD’s for ESL/LEP students and serve on LPAC committees throughout the year. 7. Serve as a student advocate for limited English proficient students.
  7. Perform other duties as assigned.

 

Education/Certification:
*Bachelor's degree from an accredited university
*Valid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements for subject and level assigned
Special Knowledge/Skills:
*Knowledge of subjects assigned
*General knowledge of curriculum and instruction
*Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior
*Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
