Primary Purpose:
Provide students with a rigorous and engaging instructional program in Reading Language Arts aligned with the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS). Foster academic excellence through effective teaching strategies, critical thinking, and a passion for reading and writing. Support all students, including those in Honors-level courses, in becoming college- and career-ready communicators.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university
- Valid Texas teaching certificate in English Language Arts and Reading (Grades 7–12 or 8–12)
- ESL Certification preferred or willingness to obtain
- GT (Gifted and Talented) training preferred or willingness to obtain
Experience:
- Experience student teaching or teaching in a secondary RLA classroom preferred
- Experience with Honors, Pre-AP, or Advanced Placement English courses is a plus
Responsibilities and Duties:
Instructional:
- Design and deliver engaging, TEKS-aligned instruction in English Language Arts and Reading for students in grades 8–12
- Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners, including English Learners, students receiving special education services, and gifted/talented students
- Implement research-based instructional strategies to develop reading comprehension, literary analysis, and written communication
- Incorporate technology and digital literacy into instruction
Curriculum and Assessment:
- Use formative and summative assessments to monitor student progress and adjust instruction
- Prepare students for STAAR exams and other district/state assessments
- Collaborate in PLCs (Professional Learning Communities) to plan lessons, analyze data, and align curriculum
- Maintain accurate records of student grades, attendance, and performance
Classroom Environment:
- Create a positive, safe, and supportive classroom climate that fosters student engagement
- Establish clear expectations for behavior and academic performance
- Communicate regularly with students, parents, and colleagues to support student success
Professionalism:
- Participate in required professional development and district in-service training
- Maintain professional competence through continuous learning and reflection
- Uphold all district, state, and federal policies and regulations
Working Conditions:
- Maintain emotional control under stress
- Frequent standing, walking, lifting, and carrying
- May require occasional evening or weekend events (e.g., parent meetings, school events)
